Into the Breach, Men.
The Most Rev. Thomas J. Olmsted and the Diocese of Phoenix has launched an initiative for men that deals with the crisis of masculinity in our culture and the increase in fatherlessness.
The bishop promulgation an apostolic exhortation “Into the Breach,” that explains the crisis and provides a call to action for men and parishes to address it. Bishop Olmsted said, “Catholic men across the centuries have responded to the call to enter the battle, ever ancient and ever new, and I have confidence that you will respond alike to fill the breach in our time.”

The movement has produced a short film titled “A Call to Battle” that highlights the crisis.
Michael Phelan, director of the Marriage and Respect Life Office said, “Historical circumstances have periodically devastated families, but we have never seen the disparagement of masculinity and fatherhood, or abandonment of men’s responsibilities that we are seeing now. It calls for an unprecedented response from the Church.”
In a statement, Bishop Olmsted said, “I encourage our men to discover or rediscover their identity as men in Christ.”
